Refuge Summer Fellowship

This Week, August 3, Matt Kent, Campus Director of Campus Crusade for Christ at ISU, will be speaking on "Responding to God's Word" from the life of Nehemiah, Nehemiah 8. We will meet in Christ the King Episcopal Church, 1210 S. Fell Av. (454-4903) at 7 pm.

Next Week, August 10, we will be having an end-of-the-summer Picnic Celebration at the Loomis' home. They live at 1323 Lismore Lane just northeast of campus (3 minute drive). Please plan to attend and have a great time with old and new friends.

Background and Purpose - Many college students “tune out” during the summer when they are away from fellow students.  Many times campus ministries find that they are rebuilding after a summer of taking a vacation from God.  Refuge would provide spiritual water for the dry desert of college summers.

Refuge is a non-denominational, cooperative effort of several college fellowships (such as InterVarsity, Navigators and Camps Crusade for Christ).  The fellowship would include students from ISU and IWU who will stay in Bloomington-Normal for the summer as well as college students go to other schools and come home to B-N.

Structure – We meet Thursdays at ISU campus or Christ the King Episcopal Church, on Fell Avenue, Normal.  The schedule will look something like this:

                7-7:30              Worship/singing

            7:30-8              Large Group Talk

8-9                                        Small Group Discussion /Sharing/Prayer

9-10                                     Social/Food (optional)

Call for Leadership There is a need to recruit student leaders to begin praying and planning for Refuge.  If you are a student in a college fellowship and would like to be involved this summer, please contact Dave Loomis, Assistant Professor of Economics, Illinois State University, 438-7979, dloomis@ilstu.edu.
